Hello All

Pulling my hair out trying to get the Low Nose headlight on my GP40-2 Gold to flash like a gyralight.

The one I have is a CSX http://www.atlasrr.com/holoco/hogp40-2a.htm. They have a youtube link showing it flashing. So far I tried the mars light settings at 55.76.X with no luck. Am I changing the wrong settings?

The decoder is factory Quantun Q1A Software version 7

Any Ideas?

Thanks

I know most of the GP38-2's owned by CSX came from the L&N and the SCL, who always mounted their headlights in the nose instead of on the cab between the number boards. But they are just regular headlights, they weren't supposed to flash or oscillate like the Espee or Rio Grande units.

This one is the GP40-2, which I'm sure is similar. Since it's the same unit and same decoder i'm sure it's just a change in settings to make the hood light act like a gyralight. Question is what settings are they?

According to the information at the link you gave, the CSX models have a low nose headlight that is not set up for use as a Gyralite. If the decoder doesn't have the ability to change the headlight to simulate a Gyralight, no CV setting will work. As Ken said, none of the CSX units have Gyralites. They are all ex-SBD and L&N units. Some of the SBD units did have Gyralights but they were high mounted, between the number boards, where you now see a blank metal plate.

I really don't understand the Atlas video either. Maybe I'm just getting senile but I never remember seeing a nose mounted Gyralite on a Rio Grande engine. They were always high mounted between the number boards. Actually, nose mounted Gyralites or Mars lights were very uncommon on EMD units in general.

I thought my Kato F40PH had dirty wheels once as the headlight was going bright then dim... turned out I activated the gyralight effect somehow. Resetting the decoder fixed it up.
No idea how I did it, guess I should read the book! :)

Thanks, Anthony, I am apparently getting senile. :) I wonder why the Rio Grande chose the nose location for the Gyralight? It seems like you'd want it mounted as high as possible for visibility. It also seems like it would be a great way to destroy all your night vision if you were a crew member walking across the front platform with a Gyralight activated.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll keep trying to see if there is a setting to make it happen, but looks like it might not be there.
