I have three Atlas Master series GP38's equipped with the Atlas dual mode decoder (no sound). They are custom painted and decaled. I want to convert them to sound without having to paint and decal three more body shells.
Can someone please tell me if the Master series GP38 body shells can be dropped onto the chassis of the Atlas Gold series GP38 with QSI sound already factory installed?
Same exact shell so no problem there. I think the only issue with the sound equipped unit is there's a small part of the shell right at the bottom that has to have a hunk taken out for the speaker but it can't be seen from the outside. You'll see where you have to make the modification when you get QSI equipped chassis. It's like a five minute job and you're back in business.
Much obliged. I thought that might be so, but I just need to be sure before popping for the cost of a Gold series GP38, or three. Doing this will save a LOT of work, not having to build three units from scratch, as it were.
I did a similar chassis swap with a couple of P2K GP9's, and only had to cut back the clear plastic headlight pieces because the QSI chassis was full height for the full length of the hoods. They were successful, but did take a lot more than 5 minutes - more like 45.
I figure I can sell the Atlas Master chassis and the Gold series body, either separately or as a pair, to recoup some of the cost.
Don't get a QSI Decoder for a GP38. I'd reccomend a Tsunami 645 Non Turbo for it. A DSD-1000AT would be suitible. Quick and simple board replacement style.
