Anyone have this loco? How does it compare with Atlas and Kato units. Did a search, but pull up only that in HO scale.

I love my older run SD75's (have half a dozen myself). They run very smooth with a good DCC decoder on board.

They are available in n-scale with better details and with availability of the tier1 versions.
The Athearn Genesis SD70/m/75m/75i/70mac are all very good locos.
The first generation have the details in bags that the owner has to apply like the handrails, grabirons, horn, antennas and so forth. This version is dcc ready, but with no sockets, just a light board that must be replaced with a decoder board.
The second version has the details installed along with the dcc-ready board having sockets for 9 pin jst and 8 pin mini socket.
I have one of each of the sd70 type locos available and a few kitbashed tier1's and m-2's.
They run really well, even with cheap decoders in them. They come with working ditch lights and other road specific details.
so, overall, I have no complaints with them.
Eric

I dont think Josh saw the forum this was posted in lol, i dont think he has any in N scale.... I think hes an HO modeler only, but if the HO ones are good, i would suspect that they are great in N scale too.... :D

I have a solitary SD75M, and a pair of SD70Ms. I also have a pair of Kato SD70Ms, and they keep step with each other. I have converted the Kato units to DCC, and will do the same to the Athearn units as finances allow. They all take the same deocders, you just have to finesse them in a bit with the Athearns.

Thanks for everything guys. I figured Josh was talking HO as I have visited his site. Still nice to hear how the athearns run. Just nice to get some feedback before deciding what to do.
