I'm in a bit of a situation here folks. My LHS has two Wheeling & Lake Erie GP35's in stock. Since they discontinued the WLE scheme does anyone know if Athearn be doing another re-run in this scheme? I'm trying to decide if I should pick up one of those units now or get something else? Thanks -Jeff

If the first scheme sold well you will likely see another run. If not, you may want to grab them now so you don't miss out.

Not always true, They made some spot on matches for Conrail sd40-2s in 2007, sold out of all of them rather quickly from what I have gathered and haven't ran any since. Worst of all is they are supposed to be doing another batch of sd40-2s but No plans for any more Conrail Units. :( If these gp35's feature something specific to that road (like the truck sideframes for conrail) I would scoop them up now, but if they are the same as pretty much any other gp35 I would be more inclined to hold off. I will say that my Athearn gp35 is real pretty looking, it is a real nice model and I doubt you will be disappointed with them.

Never have figured out how Athearn decides what paint schemes to re-issue. They had a black and white scheme GM&O GP-35 with the correct Alco trucks in 2006 and I passed it up at the time. Big mistake, it's never come out again. They go for about $200 on e-bay now. :( I'd pick up the W&LE untis while I could,

You'll have the same issue with any quality line. Most are limited runs and you never know when they'll be made again. You should be able to find another unit in the next year or so by searching on-line. Or you could just pick up the 2 you have available now. ;)

The horizon Hobbies web site says GP-35 W&LE #109 was announced in 08 and is discontinued. I bought one when they came out and they went quick. I saw one on the bay recently.

Yepper, grab them while you can. The Genesis Monon cream and crimsion F3's go for 200+ on ebay and just seen a Via Rail Canada P42dc passenger unit, mint in the box RTR line go for over $400!!!!! Looks like Athearn needs to do a full production run for that one instead of just the 100 or so units they did for a Canadian hobby shop.

Dont take any chances, get them while you can and dont wait. You will miss-out on them and if you really want them, then you will be forced to pay outrageous e-bay prices lol

There is no way to tell what Athearn will run next when it comes to paint schemes. I think they just select at random it seems lol You could try giving them a call or sending them an email, but most likely with a road like this, they wont be running them any time soon again, especially if they didnt move quickly and make them money very fast.... Alot of small roads are money pits for them, meaning they sit and sit and dont sell, so they do small runs of them to help make sure they move and aren't sitting for very long... Usually at year end is when companies evaluate there products to see what sold and what didnt sell. If a particular item sold quickly and there is still demand for them, another run will most likely be done.

It drives me nuts sometimes to think about the items I never bought while at the hobby shops years ago thinking I could get them anytime I needed. Only to find out years later they were discontinued or retired and now were essentially, un-obtainable unless you shell out big bucks.:(

I agree, Chris. It's kind of like automobiles. I seriously considered buy a new 1967 Sunbeam Tiger but then decided against it because they were too expensive. As I remember, it would have been about $3800 out the door. I can still buy one today. The last fully restored model I saw for sale was $62,000.

Jeff,In Athearn speak discontinued means sold out.

Since it sold out in a short time more then likely they will have a second run later.I have notice this trend.

Someone at the club bought 3 of them (p42DC in VIA)@ 100$ each and never unboxed one that he did keep for "spare parts". for 400$ i bet hes thinking in selling it !

So i'm not the only one that wants them to run more Conrail SD40-2's.....I've sent several emails about it to Athearn, with no reply's:mad:

Actually, i have a friend that wouldn't mind them either....but he wants to patch them for NS:(

Yep, Im fairly certain they would sell out with no problem but what do I know? Instead we get more CSX/UP sd40-2s and some NW in both black and maroon. No love out there for Conrail anymore.

Boooooooo, still better than wanting to paint them Black though.

Hmm! I snagged a few SD40-2's on ebay awhile back, 2 were RTR's I believe, hex drives or something like that, haven't looked at them since I checked them out. Guess I'll have a look at them again.
I have a plan for 2 of them but I don't remember how many I have. Guess I'll have to check and see what roads they are. One is CP Rail the rest will be a surprise.
Cheers
Willis

Every time I've found myself in this situation and didn't jump on the item, I've gotten the shaft...said item disappeared never to be seen again:mad:

Jump on it. Who knows when/if they will run them again. If Horizon was not happy with how the first run sold, you might not see another.

Nuff said?
