I have an older blue box C44-9W with a good motor but the rear truck is is bad and the frame itself has stripped coupler boxes. I know I could order new parts but I really don't want to put that much into it. Other than getting another C44-9W parts engine(witch is what I have been looking for) is there another Athearn undercarriage that will fit the shell I have or does it have to be a C44-9W? The shell is mint. It's like having a rust free mint body classic car with a rotted frame, what do you do?
dekker, the C44-9W is pretty much it for your choice. The AC4400 is close, but a bit different.
You do have to have a c44 frame for it, but you can use a RPP frame instead and all the athearn components will go right onto it. Go here and get a new RPP frame for it:
http://ppw-aline.com/frrpp944.htm for $16.00 plus shipping.
Just out of curousity, what is the roadname and number on the shell?

Actually Jerome, the C44-9W and AC4400 is the same frame from Athearn.

Oh, wait a minute, I goofed, the frames from RPP take a different truck type than what is on the c44-9w frame from athearn, they take a u33c truck with c44 sideframes.
You'd be better off ordering from athearn to get the right frame for it. I gave you the part numbers and the page, just go there instead.
Sorry, Eric
Lol, see thats where the driveline went to the u-boat you got from me Jerome.....

Thats the thing, It would cost me more buying new parts then what I paid for it, plus I have been seeing these on ebay in new or like new condition for 25-40 with shipping. I only spent 26.00 on it. When I got it it worked great but when I was cleaning it I noticed that the coupler boxes were not the best but I figured I could make them work, well anyway I dropped it and messed up the rear truck BAD I broke gears and the wheels are outa wack. I was hoping I could find a parts engine that had a good frame and good rear truck.
I tell ya what, I got a deal for ya, check your pm.
