I have a athearn blue box non power unit I picked up fron the pennysaver for 4.00 dollars and I was wondering how hard is it to make the unit powered with a motor?

you'll need a lot of parts: the motor, the flywheels, drive shafts and the trucks w/geared wheels and possibly the truck sideframes. Along with the clip or your own wiring across the top of the motor. It is fairly easy once you have all the parts, I've converted some over the years but I was pulling them from other units I already had, ie; I didn't have to buy anything.

It is not hard, but would probably be cheaper to pick up a powered one at a swap meet and just swap shells.
