Assembling old Pacific HO Silver Streak kits

I've got a couple of unbuilt Pacific HO Silver Streak kits from 50+ years ago. Before I mess up some nice vintage models I'd welcome any thoughts on painting, gluing, finishing a lot of pot metal and wooden parts with today's products. Thanks.
 
Seems like I have a few of those somewhere along with some old Redball kits Just take your time Paint both sides of wood and seems like I used alight coat of primer so the paint would stick
 
On my old kits I still glue with Gorilla Glue, the clear one. Will glue a couple places then let it sit overnight to fully set. Also, washing with mild soap any of those metal parts is recommended

a little abrasion with 200 sandpaper where it won't show will also help glue stick. I have a Great Northern caboose that is a silver streak kit, turned out real nice, I think
