Does anyone recall any of the Aurora HO scale buildings from the early 60s? I have their RR station. I used to have their gas station too.
Some of their buildings are now made by Tyco as ready built but they're on clunky bases and look pretty cheesy. Has anyone ever taken one of the Tyco remakes and brought it back to scale so to speak?
Tyco now has the molds. It's the same thing that they use as a light up with that clunky base. Or you can buy one off Ebay for $400 with original instructions. Almost all of the Tyco 'Brown Box' buildings are former Aurora HO kits, except for the freight station, which is a copy of the Revell kit.
I'll be darned, I thought I had built all the early plastic kits in existence, but I never saw that Aurora gas station. Looks like it was a nice kit. I loved the Revell kits. I sure wish Revell would bring them back out again.

Con-Cor now produces them. Same exact kit. AHM-Regal Way have them for awhile as well. IHC I think still has a modified double cupola version of the Revelltown station which call the Mainline Station.
The Tyco freight station light up is also from the Revell freight station mold.
I don't think anyone currently produces the Weekly Herald/Superior Bakery building kit though. I had a heck of a time finding one on e-bay a couple of years ago and I'm still not too thrilled with the one I got because of some missing parts I had to scratchbuild. I think that structure was also the basis of the two stall engine house, which I also think is OOP.
I have the original Revell Station with the Single Center Cupola [I'm pretty sure as it's been packed away for years]. I also have the Revell Two Stall Engine House which I'm planning on using on the layout somewhere although it may be a bit too modern for the theme of my period? I also have the Revell Barn with the Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco on the roof which I'm planning on using but not sure just where at present, maybe up near where the High Country cattle pens are? These are all the old original kits.
I think I paid $!3.00 for the Engine house kit back in the mid '50's, with news paper delivery money, and bought it from Earls Hobby shop on Topoanga Canyon Blvd just South of Ventura Blvd.
Say Terri, being the Gas Station is worth that much I'd definitely fence it off with some real heavy duty chail link and maybe even electrify it!! LoL
Yeah it is. They're great kits, but the buildings themselves are pretty well preserved thanks to Tyco. Just find one of the Tyco brown box items and take it off the clunky plastic base, re-paint it and shazam, Aurora building.
