Hi all; I'm a little ashamed this is my first post considering that I've been trolling these forums for a long time but I figured better late that never. If I every get seriously going on my N-scale layout I'm sure I'll start posting a lot more frequently.

So, to the topic at hand. My father-in-law is a model railroad buff - he has two huge O layouts in a dedicated bedroom of his house. My Christmas gift to him is an aluminum (maybe brass - I'm undecided) sign for his train room. While designing this sign it dawned on me: why not make custom railroad parts for modelers?

So that's why I'm here. I have the equipment to make many of the custom parts and props some of you might be interested in. Metalworking (or machining in general) is my hobby and it's expensive. I'm not looking at this as a business, just as a way to cover the cost of tooling and materials. As such, anything I make would be quite inexpensive and reasonably priced - being able to help out a hobby I'm interested in is a bonus.

I already make parts for custom bicycles: chopper forks, wheel hubs, brake rotor adapters, etc. I also create parts for hobby robots and radio controlled models. I figure trains would be a logical step. I've got a small envelop on my mill - 8" x 4" x 8" so I can't make anything huge. That's plenty large enough to make locomotive plaques, wheels, fixtures, etc. I can use wood, plastics, and most metals (don't have the tooling for hardened alloys though so nothing exotic). So if this is of interest to anyone, feel free to contact me and I'll see if I can make what you need. Thanks!

Mike

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm in Overland Park, Kansas. Just on the outskirts of Kansas City. Does it show my IP somewhere so you could look it up? Thanks!

i might be interested if I can get my hands on 2 athearn GP40 frames. I would need two to complete a project. 1 frame would need to have the fuel tank shortened and the frame split. The other frame would be donating part of its frame for the extension of the first frame.

NJ Transits GP40PH-2B. Regular athearn frame is too short. I'de have to find out from others who have done it to see what the total length is needed from the combined frame.

and these are not my pictures, photographer is named at bottom.
