Amtrak passenger cars

When I purchased the Kato F40PH's I was not too keen to buy the matching Phase II passenger cars. I wondered whether (prototypically speaking) if it correct to hitch the Phase IV Superliners to the F40PH. For that matter, has the early Phase I smoothside passenger cars ever been used with the F40PH's?

Can't answer your specific question. I would imagine that Amtrak used the F40PH with anything unless the F40PH engines were scrapped before Phase IV made it to the rails.

On your layout, you are the CEO, CFO, cook and bottle washer. You can decide on whatever you want to do.
