Johnny, I don't really know what to say other than "Beautiful"! Your skills and the patience to use them amaze me.

NickB-- Thanks much. I'm glad you enjoy my work.

Rex--Always a pleasure to hear from you. And, my friend, 'nuff said!! Thank YOU.

Johnny

Well a complete rework of the first showcase car has been completed. The car started out as a stock Lionel car that was part of the sets they produced in the 70's. After I got the car, I did some general refurbishing, modified a few things and corrected all of the interior displays. This is how the car looked then...

NOW the car has it's correct windows in place and the factory paint was stripped and the model was airbrushed with acrylics and custom decals...

And while we're at it, I thought I'd give a better look at the contents...

As a side note: 32 years ago today the American Freedom Train left the assembly area behind Reading 2101 to begin it's journey.

More to come,

Johnny

So what are you going to do with this train set when your finished??

When I'm done with American Freedom Train, it will be displayed at various shows. I have a few places that have expressed an interest in hosting the train to coincide with 'events' they have. As far as the next project, I'm going to do a Ringling train made up of the 25 ex-Army hospital cars they had as seen in the C.B.D. movie "The Greatest Show on Earth". That should take a bit...

When the American Freedom Train was enroute, some of the crew tagged along with their own personal vehicles. But some rode the train and needed accomodations. These three cars were part of the 'standard' coaches that made up the consist.

The AFT # 205--The Observation car served as a press car. My model was made from the stock Lionel car that came with the sets they produced. After removing the cast on details, the model was airbrushed with acrylics, then decaled. Still to be added, roof vents, drum head, and wire grabs.

The AFT # 204 & AFT # 203--These cars were pretty much basic coaches and served as crew quarters. My models were made from cutting up extra observation cars and splicing them to create the cars. All of these models have been custom painted with added details like knuckle couplers and 36" metal wheels.

And of course, the 'on the road' shot.

Clap! Clap! Clap! Cheers! Clap! Cheers!
Very well presented, Johnny. Gave me goose bumps;) .

I only wish that I could have seen the real one. I believe it is time again, to be reminded of who we are and where we have been.
Thank you for the moment.:)

Johnny,
Wow! I have been away for awhile and I'm greeted by this when I return!
That's some fine work on the Freedom Train. And the video... as Rex put it... gave me "goose bumps"! Pure modeling inspiration. Keep the photos coming. Dave
