AMAZING RAILROAD GRAVEYARD???

Go on Google Earth and type in Silvas, IL. Zoom in and you will find an even bigger place where they do work on old locos.

Silvis, Illinois is on its last legs. They are closing and moving the equipment to other facilities. I remember when it was the Rock Island’s locomotive central. Boy time flies.

I love DJ’s flyovers. The thing I have always wondered about is why keep the units together so long? Junk yards are the same way. Unless it is needed don’t touch it. IMHO, it would be more efficient to break down the locomotive as soon as it comes in. Keep the stuff to rebuild in their own areas, motors, wheels, trucks, horns, cabs, etc... Scrap out ASAP the unused components.

I watched video of a rebuild EMC rebuild. They strip it down to the frame and rebuild everything from that. Thanks for sharing DJ
