I am in the process of adding steerable side frames to two Kato CP AC4400's. I am using Details West side frames but found out that pins that come with them are correct for an Atherarn AC4400m, not a Kato.

The detail west frames have tubular pins while the Kato frames have a rectangular pin that fits into a slot and lock the frames into place.

My question is, does anyone have any suggestions on how to change those ciruclar pins on the Details west frames so that they will fit into the slot in the trucks on the Kato AC4400's and also lock into place?

Any help is greatly appreciated!:)

First, you're going to need to figure out what brake gear you're going to use, the Kato's are molded onto the gear tower, where as the DW/Athearn's are on the side frame.

I'd recommend making a square tab from scratch to match the Kato, then using a tab/slot system of some sort, attach it in place of the round pins on the DW side frame.

if the centering of the pins are close to the centering of the square tabs I would suggest simply cutting some off of the top and bottom of the pins to allow it to slide in the slots. if this does not work looks like you will have to scratch build out of square stock styreen?
