I'm planning on putting 2 harvesters on as the load. What would you use to secure them? Black thread?

Scale chain. It's available and would look right at home with your load. That is what the railroads use to secure such loads.

Here is a sample of what the chain looks like on my crane and one on a flat car about to be unloaded.
Thanks guys. The accurail flats dont have holes on the flat for the chain to go through. I might have to drill some small slots for the chain to go through. I have 10 flats to do with harvesters. its gonna be fun

I worked at a place that shipped trucks out once in while on a flat. They used chains and would cris-cross them front and rear of the vehicle and attach them to the outer sides of the car. They also would put beams of wood in front and back of the truck tires for chocks.

Get the 30 LPI (links per inch) chain for HO scale.
