A new beginning...JRs UPRR.

James....Good info! Does the red paint scheme have the same variety as the yellow?
they do not exist in HO scale as
Right! These manufacturers, can't tell what they're going to make or what not!
I was looking for a set of the 50' REA Xpress refer in the striped scheme (first production.) I found a faithful production model made by River Raisin Models. This car is gorgeous! Only one problem, it's S scale!.......😭
So I settled for a couple of Walthers RTR cars. Detail not too bad on these cars. Most glaring thing!....roof is blatantly way wrong!! 👎
If there's a car or something I can watch out for you, let me know, I'd be happy to keep my eye out.....

Nope! The red & white scheme doesn't have the variety on color in particular the roof. All the rooves are same color as the car body red. Although there are several road numbers out there.

The yellow and white scheme as I mentioned in previous post does have at least 3 different color roof. Blue, silver & black and possibly yellow.

I would love to find the orange and white scheme.

I have the RTR Athearn Silver and blue scheme.

I am still looking hard for more prototype pictures they are so elusive!

I like collecting RR paper work! When ever I go into an antique store Ill look thru the old magazines, primarily SE Post, Life, Nation Geographic.
The NG's have mainly adds for passenger trains, Post & Life will have the assortment of adds for RR related oil, steel, a good variety of stuff, but no Timken adds, or I know I'd have them framed up......Happy Hunting!

Wyatt & Doc gotta call on a new arrival of a boxcar..... a Missouri Pacific ACF box car T.P. (Texas Pacific) #367097.

They brought it in on the incoming south bound interchange line. UP D.S. #1003 was taken out to receive the car. A great purchase for JR's UPPR. Management did a good job on this one! No work needed. She is in like new condition! Here is a good look at it!

Well I got a solution for the window covering. I got an art foam board for about 6 bucks. It's 1/4" thick and it works. I painted it and cut it to size. Then I had to do a little wood cutting. I cut a notch on the back of the plywood that sets against the window molding. (2 peices) Now I will get it in place this weekend. It will just slide in into place. When I took the pictures at the time the paint had not completely dried yet but It will do and perfectly blend. I will post another one once I put it in place.

I also had to repaint the white above the blue all around the room. I wasn't satisfied with the previous white as it wasn't a bright enough/clean white color. So that got done as well. That's why you see blue painter tape up again.....

Next.....

So then on to the vertical standards, shelving brackets and shelves. Unfortunately after hunting around for a 24" vertical standard none were to be found with the double latch style. I checked Ace, Home Depot and Lowes. All the sizes were 12, 18, 30, 48 60 then 84 inches. So I had to buy the 30 inch ones then cut them down to 24 inches to make it work for my situation. Then I proceeded to paint them all black as they were white. Painted the brackets too.

So then on to the shelving boards..... I wanted to try using a black stain. I did a test on a sample piece. I am on the fence with this. I think I will go back to just using black primer spray paint for this. I will how ever use the black stain for my fascia board around the edges of the layout and the legs.

I will post later with the painted shelves later this weekend.

So the boys at JRs Fuels Company fired up their new KW that had been sitting in storage forever waiting for a new tanker trailer. Well it arrived about a week ago. I say it looks pretty sharp. It will get the new graphics added to the tank side for the JRs Fuels Co. logo....that will be applied later.

Looks good I think...

Just recently while on a well known Evil Bay RR brokerage firm.....

Management at JRs UPRR just acquired (6) new 60 Ft Bulkhead Flat Cars in Union Pacific livery from a car shop out of Rancho Cucamonga, California! All manufactured by Roundhouse Inc. Considered as new old stock condition. Its an incredible find for the RR team as this completes their needs on these particular types of cars. Definitely the right price. Once the crew takes delivery of them in about a week they will go straight to the wheel shop for all new metal wheels and then on to the car shop for coupler upgrades. Luck will have it.... the cars have all new and different road numbers as management is ecstatic about that! 😁 ;) That will place them on the active roster right quick!

#215508 (UP Yellow)
#215611 (UP Yellow)
#215645 (UP Yellow)
#215678 (UP Yellow)
#215680 (UP Yellow)
#282151 (Brown)

The crew will snap pics upon arrival.

Today was lucky day for JRs UPRR management team. The Prez made a stop at a LHS brokerage yard (JPs Trains http://www.jptrainsandhobbies.com/) on the way home from Albany. There were a few consignments there today. So (2) purchases were made today.

Roundhouse 50' Boxcar 1272 road number #610 Tidewater & Southern

and

Roundhouse 50' Boxcar 1981 Dbl Door Western Pacific road number #381 with an EOTD

We will show these when they come out of the car shop this weekend!

Measure 2xs 3xs 4xs cut measure again test fit.....measure cut....test fit. Ya slow going. I am painting more shelves tomorrow. Waiting for the other shelves to dry. I need to pick up 7 more standards. and cut those too and paint. Coming along slowly as I had other things to attend to. I got the foam board in front of the window. It's ok but will be replaced with another one that is currently drying in the garage. So I have a little ways to go.

Here's are some humble pics...

Once the lower shelving is up and installed into place. I will place the LEDs under them and then I will follow up with the valance molding in front of the shelves which will prevent you from seeing the LEDs and the transition of the blue paint to white paint.

Then I will place the upper shelves up above (top level) which will be at the top of the window and door frames/header. This upper shelf will go completely around the room continuously. This is where I will have various artifacts, pictures, displays and memorabilia etc.

Well the boys got a call today to pick up a few cars that arrived on the main in bound from the south. Wyatt set out to pick up (2) DRGW cars D&RGW Box Cars #590430 and #513153 with DRGW #5375 SD40-2T Tunnel motor. They sure do look purdy! Wyatt even brought along the caboose which looked great in this lash up!

Meanwhile Doc was on assignment to pick up the other car that was acquired. So he rolled out with RS-1 RI #472 to pickup a used Rock Island Route Rock road number CNW #718103 Rib side Box Car. It came in on the north bound main line. Not bad, it will need a little attention. We like the CNW logo on the car.

Dang! The boys Doc & Wyatt have been busy moving rolling stock around for all the new arrivals these past few days! A much appreciated piece of equipment came in on the south main line. The guys are looking forward to use this transfer caboose. They are excited as they received word that management scored a 2nd one as well that will arrive sometime next week. So the guys hustled out 2 of the SW10s #1207 (with NLR Jenks shop lettering) and #1247 (standard lettering) to retrieve the new transfer caboose UP #13737 and later pulled out an older bay winder' cabby with broken winders that needed to be cleaned out and moved out of the way. Check it out!

the call came down the line for the other new transfer caboose as it has arrived! Wyatt dusted off an o'l MOPAC blue #1503 switcher that was refurbished and shopped by our very own JTEX and gang back in 2009. Yup...yes sireee! Mr. Wheeler the CEO/Prez/Owner did this loco up for JRs UPPR. So this it's fitting to pull this out and retrieve our new order. Here they are in all of their glory! uh huh sweet!
