A) Freight you like vs freight you don’t like… B) Road names you like vs roads you don’t like…

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I like FALNS hoppers, KLS-x 448 stake flats, Res-687 stake flats, Snps-719 stake flats, tanks, Tds-930 bulk goods, Uac dust wagons, Lbv container flat wagons. I guess I'm sort of partial to flat wagons. There's not many I don't like. If you don't like wagons blocking the scenery they pass through, unloaded flats are the ticket.

DB, ÖBB, SBB, and RhB are my favorite roads. I like ČD, British Rail, SNCF, MOB, and MGB. Like freight wagons, there's not too many railroads I don't like.

I’m not partial to any freight cars. I get freight cars to support my operating scheme.

I don’t dislike any railroads per se, but I still haven’t quite forgiven the Pennsy for wrecking the PC. I’m especially fond of Conrail and (most of) its predecessors, LIRR and the G&W (the original).

I like about all kinds of freight cars. As for road names, I model CSX in pretty modern times but I had a B&O loco as a kid which I liked. Maybe someday I'll buy a CSX/B&O heritage unit 😁. I also like cars with reporting marks indicating they're leased or privately owned... don't know why

Having once lived near a Procor production facility, and working there part time for short stints 40+ years ago, I have a fondness for tank cars (all types/roadnames). I also have a fondness for Burlington Northern locos which sucks, as I'm trying to model small town Canada. How often did US-based locos miss a turnout and end up in Canada anyways??? lol

Burlington Northern had a line that extended into British Columbia to Vancouver. It probably went through but did not stop at a small town on the way.

For what it’s worth, I have the LIRR 😜 Ski Train…to Far Rockaway

I realized I have a thing for covered hoppers, there really isn't a type of freight that I truly dislike.

My first set (Life Like) had a Santa Fe loco, so I'm partial to the yellow and dark blue scheme. The BN/BNSF had some nice colored engines as well.
For some reason I like chevrons/stripes on locos.🤔

For example.. A) I like box cars, covered hoppers, tank cars…not big on flat cars, bulkhead flats, coil steel cars
B) I like CN, Santa Fe, Rio Grande, Burlington Northern…no love for CP, Conrail, EL, NW, MKT
A). I like all freight cars because they are trains, but in the spirit of the question... Easy, my all time favorite is the wooden ice hatch reefer cars from the billboard era. Second, is probably the war emergency outside braced equipment. My least favorite would be the modern monster auto-racks, especially the articulated ones. Second, hmmm harder, I guess those ribbed cryo-tankers, and the airslide covered hoppers. The hopper running length wise on the car just looks wrong.

B.) Road names are even harder. I guess if I HAVE to choose, all time favorite has to be the Louisville & Wadley a Petticoat Junction style railroad down south. 2nd could be many including the Moosehead and Belfast in the NE, similar reason, or maybe the Virginia & Truckee. Least favorite would be yeah PennCentral, Conrail. Poorly run, poorly managed. Even considering the junk they had to start with. Second, how about the Katy and Western Pacific because of their horrible paint schemes. Bright green box car with MKT plastered on the side with nasty bright yellow paint. And who didn't take an art 101 class to know that green and orange together is a technical eyesore. Western Pacific green with orange lettering is just a gag me train.

Well, if you model 1899 the Northern Pacific went into Canada all the way to Portage la Prairie to meet with the Canadian Northern. Pretend that line had never been sold, and carried over into the BN merger.

A) I like box cars (especially 60' high cube), centerbeam flatcars (opera window style especially) and covered hoppers. Don't dislike any rolling stock per se, but I guess I'm not wild about the long autopart boxcars.
B) I model the modern era, so I like BNSF and UP and a lot of shortline/Class III railroads. But I'd love to model Santa Fe and Burlington Northern someday (hard to beat those color schemes) . I guess I dislike PennCentral (ugly to me anyway).

I've always liked the old billboard reefers. Illegal, obsolete, but colorful. My layout can't support running the long beasts so stick to smaller boxcars, hoppers and a few tank cars. Partial to the CB&Q, CNW and the GM&O. There doesn't seem to be a lot of models of GM&Os equipment out there.
