I know you can buy this but you can also custom make one any size you like.
1st I bent a piece of thin aluminum 1 1/2 in x 2 ft in half and drilled a hole close to the top, next I went to the hardware store and picked up a stove bolt, wing nut , sping and washer.

Easy to assemble and use, the wing nut is used to adjust width and tension on the model.

Also can be used in your vise

Neat! The commercially available ones have some heavy foam glued to the outer ends of the arms, that fit inside the model shells. This helps keep the shells tight without slipping. Wouldn't be hard to add I imagine.

Nicely done. I've gone the bent coathanger route myself. The advantage there is that you can bend it to fit a loco, or a model car, or a structure... and you can make a bunch of them for $0.

I made a paint booth from an old (large) microwave oven. Gut the oven (or dehumidifier or cabinet or ...), add a blower. Adopt the output to dryer vent tube. To use the booth, temporarily disconnect your dryer from the outside vent, and connect the paint booth.

I use an old furnace filter on the back of the booth to prevent paint from going out the tube onto my lawn and house.

You might be able to find a blower from an industrial surplus place. If you paint with flammable solvents, make sure the blower uses an induction motor, not the kind with brushes - you don't want any sparks around the flammables.

I thought an old snow blower housing might make a good paint booth, it even has a hole to hook up for an exaust fan.

Boy, if that is your old blower, list it on eBay and buy 2 or 3 paint booths. Or put some hooks on those roundy things and hang your model on them for auto rotation while painting :]

I'm sure having one of those is very handy, but for a cheap-o guy like me, I just use a rolled up magazine that I taped together and it fits nicely into the shell of my certain engine or car. You just squeeze it into an oval shape, and stick the shell on. It holds great once you let the tension out and doesn't cost a thing.
