I started this Athearn SD-40 this week. I purchased this unit from an eBay seller that specializes in "less than pristine" items. This SD-40 will get the same treatment as my SD40-2. I've already "milled" the frame down and added the Cannon High Hood and a few details. The Athearn SD-40 has an 88" nose, so I had to fill in a chevron shaped area in front of the nose as I did on the Dash 2.

I also have this ATLAS C30-7 I'm going to add a few details onto and then let 'er be.

Then there's the matter of this ATLAS C-420 I've aquired in it's present state. In time it will be N&W #2578 in the 13D Scheme like the dash 7.

And last on the list is this ATLAS RS-36 that will meet a simular fate with one big suprise.

Boy, Randy, you either must do this full time or never sleep. :) Looks like an interesting group of motive power this time.

I'm disabled, so I don't get out much, and when I do I usually fall down. So I stay home and to quote Tony Koester, "play trains". ;)

Well, I guess that's one upside to being disabled although I'm sure you'd be willing to give that up for better health. You certainly have a gift for modeling so I hope that's some compensation for your disability.

Nice work Randy, can't wait to see the end results!
I drove a C30 similar to that for all of 100' or so, long hood forward as I recall...

River, great work.

I see you like to high hood EMD products. I need a two piece front windshield to convert my GP20. Got any parts for sale?

Two questions...

Whats 13D mean, I've been hearing it allot lately.

Who's this seller you speak of?

Josh, 13D, IIRC, started out with the all black Penn Central scheme. It means 13 words for black like dark, dreary, depressing, and a few other words I probably shouldn't say here. :) It soon became generic fo any all black paint scheme.

It may be that that color scheme was designated by the N&W as 13D but the term was well known, and I think originated by the magazine Extra 2200 south), for the original Penn Central paint scheme. It referred to thirteen adjectives beginning with the letter "D".... (e.g. "dull", "drab", "dreary", etc., etc....). Surely I can't be the only one around here that remembers this.
