1/87th Vehicles

You know all the 'crap' for the kids today...just isnt what it used to be, you hardley ever see anything like Tonka Toys anymore...least @ my local WM..

WM is good for taking all the products a company can produce, in essence usin them up, then after a year or two...droppin their products..pretty crappy business policy IMO

I'll have to swing thru WM again tmw, pickup any of the norscot stuff thats left..

I guess the good thing is the Norcott items will go down to clearance prices:D but they will go quick. You are absolutley right !!!!!! What happened to the big Tonka trucks? I remember when I was a kid Toys R Us had a whole row dedicated to Tonka. WM has a whole row for Barbie half a row for Hot Wheels and lets not talk about bicycles:rolleyes:

I just wonder what we are leaving the next generation... Throw away food, Cars, Toys, Houses, and most even treat their spouses as 'disposable'... Kinda scary IMO

Sorry - Back to the subject @ hand!

I use a ton of Matchbox & Hotwheels trucks on my layout. Remember the Stake Body trucks? There was about 5 diff. colors & I have them all.
I also have a bunch of the U-haul tractor trailers that WM sold about 10 years ago. They have all the diff. States logo's on the trailers. At one time I got a bunch of furniture van semi's, but, they were a little bit smaller than HO, but sitting in front of a furniture they look good.
I wonder when WM is going to start selling tractor trailers again. I don't need any, but I'm sure the rest of you could use some.
They haven't sold any airplanes that match HO either for about 2 years.
That's the only thing I hate about WM is, they run out of a good selling item & U never see it again. I've been trying to get the big dump truck that WM sells in Norscott, but now after they sell all of the overstock of what's left now, there won't be anymore of that. I'm waiting for the price to go below $5.00 before I buy out what's left in my store of the Cat. stuff.
I was in Toys-R-Us yesterday & they didn't have any of the vehicles that WM has. I even asked & the Mgr. said she didn't know what I was talking about. They must never go to WM for price comparisson.

Larry

When I was in Walmart today, I confirmed they no longer stock the Norscott Cat stuff anymore. I'm glad I got what they had when they had it as you are right, once it's gone, they done bring it back.

Norscot is indeed gone, BUT, Target should have them still, along with K-mart/Shopko. Target also has some Winner's circles that Wal*mart did not have. One thing of note though, the "toy" line of Norscot never contained the dump truck, only the water truck.

Oh, I forgot, I got my first batch of the Monogram Mini Exacts in today. Three pack with a '57 Chevy Bel Air, '69 Mustang Boss 302, & '63 Corvette Hardtop. The bottom of the box states that a Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari F40 & Ferrari Testarossa were available. I've also got a Buick Grand national, two Camaro Z28's and a Grand Prix coming.

Darn, I thought the Monogram Exacts went out of business many years ago.
About 15 years ago I bought everything that a hobby shop was closing out for about 50cents each for a 3 pack. Then the 6 packs he had were $1.00 ea. & I bought all of those. So, for quite a few years the Exacts was all I had.
They made some nice cars. I have a lot of the early sedans(all black veh.'s).
Is Exact back in business or did you buy those on EBay?

eBay, I ran into them searching 1:87. I remember the Grand National, because my oldest brother had one mint in package. So I've bid on a number of them.

Still have not gotten those fire engines, when the auction went up to $20, I kind of gave up on that figuring I can find them elsewhere for that same price.

Just a note. Before John Deere went w/the big toys in all their stores they use to handle a lot of early model sedans & pickups in 1/86th scale.
I had a few that I bought when the JD dealer went out of business here in Arcadia in 1978. Yes, I did say 1/86th. They were so close to 1/87th U couldn't tell the difference. They were highly detailed cars. Made all out of metal. Had nice interiors. They were in a box like the early Matchbox cars.
No Blister Packs back then. You might be able to find some on Ebay.

Josh:

I hate to correct you but the cat dump truck identical to the Klien water truck is available @ WM or it was. We still have 6 or 8 of them on the markdown rack.
I have more than I really need but since there being marked down I will wait and see if they go below $5.:D Then I'll pickup whats left of all the versions.:)

Well id jiss gits betterer an betterer here in the boonies. Went to Wally to get a pr. of shoes, they didn't have my size in the shoes I wanted so rather than waste a trip I decided to look in the toy section. Just as I envisioned, the place was full of kids and parents who were supposed to be buying school supplies (I guess)
Anyway as I suspected it was all big stuff on the shelves and the kids were busy doing a make work program for the staff. Didn't find anything on display except the empty Norscot display box. Ah! well decided to leave an for some reason or other decided to glance at the storage on top of the racks. There was a certain size box which looked about the right size and being close to six ft. tall decided I didn't need assistance to get it. Lo and behold it was full of little Hot Wheels so I picked out three I liked a Ford Shelby concept GR-1; Volkswagen Beetle and something called "Purple Passion" flame paint looks like a custom chopped Merc. these were $3.44 apiece. When putting the box back I noticed a box of Fresh Cherries, so I took that down. These were $2.92 apiece so I took a 74 AMC Gremlin; 82 Ford Escort; 84 Ford Tempo; 77 Ford Pinto Cruising Wagon; 75 Mercury Bobcat. Putting that box back I noticed more Hot Wheels boxes behind the first. I couldn't reach them and I was running out of spare change anyway. Now that I know where they are I'll be watching. Anyway that was my haul for today

Willis, That store is not supposed to have any "risers" in toys. All WM stores were supposed to have done away w/risers in every store. When WM was selling the WM semi's & our store still had risers, that's where I use to hide them from the general public until I got off work.
Now, our risers are gone, so, I have to depend on the toy dept. mgr. keeping me informed of all new 1/87th vehicles or me finding them in receiving before someone puts them on the shelf.
I'm usually too busy in the back to notice anything new.

I was told, by a certain source in Norscot, they they did not make the dump truck, only the 6 I currently had. That little liar, I guess everyone beat me to them.

As for risers, our Wal*mart has them in every isle BUT the cars & trucks isle. And some other notable places no longer have them, buy Toys and Automotive seem to be the exception.

I'm going to have to dig through other Wal*marts to see if I cannot find the dump trucks.

Scott, I'll check Sunday, My Wal*mart is WAY behind so there should be a few on the shelf still for a week or two.

Gotta find me a Grand National!!! I loved those cars and have several 1/24th scale models of them here.I'llhave to try and hunt me one day in 1/87th scale !!!

Finally

Went to WM last night and finally got (3) 1/87 Hot Wheels. This store has not yet started to redo their mods so the CAT products are still there and at full price:( Look like tornado came through and dropped off (3) cars the shelves were a mess. Many collectors there and eyeballing my basket:cool: they also had some more Winner 's Circle cars in 1/87 and mini tanks and I never seen before in 1/44 scale.

Well we finally got the 1-87 scale reel rides at Wallyworld here in western Pennsylvania. Sadly it seems we're last in line for pretty much everything. I got there just as my buddy who works there was putting them on the shelf. Anyhow they were well worth the wait. I bought the `72 Chevy C-10 pick up and the `77 Pontiac trans-am. Interestingly enough I noticed they actually went to the trouble of putting tire tread patterns on the bottoms of the tires on those cars unlike Malibu International's previous line.

Don't feel bad as we here in northeastern PA didn't get it long before you did. I went to Wally World on thursday and they had just gotten the Reel Rides in that week.
