1/87th Vehicles

Hot Wheels. Matchbox DID make them in the long away past though.

OOPS! Excuse my mistake. It's a goog thing you corrected me because I would have been looking for Matchbox ones and I would have been cursing my local Wally World's for not having them.

The new WM toy modular comes out monday in all the stores. That's the 30th. I looked at the new modular when I took it out of the steel today & there's a lot of new vehicles in the stacks. I didn't open the boxes because I'm on a tight schedule to get everything done before I go home at 2pm.
Tomorrow, if I can I'll look thru everything to see what the new changes are.
For those that don't know what a modular is; they set new shelf heights, new signs, new end caps, & start changing out the old stuff to the stockroom. Most modulars are set at nite. Either the nite before or the same nite of the change.

That's great news about Hot Wheels I'll have to start watching for them. I went back to Walley's yesterday but the cars were all gone (those were the convertibles) so I'm not put out about it. Man there were a lot of dudes on that aisle poking around and finding nothing, I guess the word was out. Strange there was the box of the Norscot construction equipment and no one paying attention to it so I picked up another Cat D5G dozer and a Cat 420E Backhoe Loader that I missed the last time.

I see I'm not the only one who has a history or current employment with Wally World. I worked there a few years ago part-time to supplement my income before I got my dream job.

Nope not alone.

In fact, the management team has asked me to apply for assistant when I hit my 2 year mark.

Our Store mgr. said today that all new modulars in all stores in toys would be set at different times. Ours has been changed to about Aug. 18th. Don't know why unless it's because WM is in a slump in a lot of area's & can't get all the new toys at the same times. Just a guess.

WM is falling apart slowly but surely. 1% gain whereas Target (being more expensive) has had a 4.1% gain.

I don't want to bash Wal-Mart or start an argument or anything like that, as I know it does provide a lot of jobs, but I don't think today's Wal-Mart is what Sam Walton had in mind 45 years ago. I've seen the other end of the business (trying to sell products to Wal-Mart) from the prospective of two different companies, and it's all about price. They don't care where it's made, and to a certain point what the level of quality is, they just buy from the cheapest source, which unfortunately is nearly always overseas. They've driven a lot of companies out of business, and not just other retail stores, but manufacturers that simply couldn't compete with imports. I don't think that's what Sam would have wanted...he wanted affordable merchandise, not cheap merchandise, if that makes any sense. I also have to wonder if they've over-extended themselves by building too many stores too close together. There are at least 3 I can think of within a 20-minute radius, and another 3 within 35-40 minutes. In any case the word is a Target will be open within a year (they're starting construction right now), so it will be interesting to see where it all goes.

Walmart junquette

Hello,

I am jumping on the Fresh Cherries band wagon. Bought three different styles a Pacer, Pinto and a Escort. I am really impressed with these. I can now out fit my OMI UP open tri level auto rack with out breaking the bank. Also picked up a REELS 1/87 1967 Plymouth GTX at WM. It is pretty well detailed. Looks as if it is made by the same company that is making the Model Power vehicles. As I was browsing found that they had Norscot Caterpillar 1/87 Construction equipment for 5.85 a copy. The WalMart here in my town is a bustling mad house. We got a new Target store last year and it is a nice store but Wal Mart has double to triple the bussiness.

Huh! and you are in the US, man that sure is puzzling, today I picked up two Cat 906 wheel loaders bringing the total so far to 8 Norscot construction minis at $2.92 Cd. each, on the other hand I pay a little more for the "Model Collection" cars at $2.42 ea and can't complain about that, just glad to be able to get them. Still waiting to see some North American car models though.
Also today, Picked up a Jaguar XK; 1970 Alfa Romeo Spider 1300; Land Rover Discovery 3; and a Porsche Cayman S Not quite what you'd find many of in this neck of the woods, but hey! they're 1/87 th model cars what more could I want. Wasn't so long ago I could read this thread and only drool :D

HEY GUYS:
I just picked up several of each of the HOT WHEELS IN 1/87 here in LAS VEGAS while I was loading a show. the only one I didn't get was BONE CRUSHER they didn't have that one. They have real rubber tires and nice chrome rims much better than MALIBU'S. My favorite and the best by far is the 49 merc followed by the FERRARI , and then the MUSTANG. The only downfall is that they don't have mirrors and the paint is a little heavy as is with any DIECAST.
I also see that thier now in MISSOURI and CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

Nate, I've been w/WM for about 4 & 1/2 years & everything that you wrote is exactly true. starting this week all of the WM's are lowering the prices on 16,000 items in every store. Our store has really suffered in the past year or so. We have 2 new WM's about 30 mins. away & another one is being built about 20 mins. away & is supposed to open in Dec.
In the past 6 months WM has lost 5 Store Mgrs. to the new & improved Target stores. Target is redoing all of their stores to carry a full line of groceries
I know for sure that WM is trying to put all of their competition out of business. In my town the rest of the grocery stores are struggling to stay open. We have 4 others in my town.

I love those new hot wheels ones, but to me, the wheels are, well to hot wheel'y, like, it just reminds me of hot wheels toys, just smaller (and rubber wheels I guess). Oh well I'll be buying them.

**BEGIN OFF TOPIC**
Larry, our store manager got fired because a number of our higher paid assistants, and both supports were supposed to be fired. He refused on the account that he would have been left with 2 assistants. I hear they were nice and let him move to another store, and he's on a probationary 3 year assistant deal.

My former support manager is suing Wal*mart over discrimination, because he was fired, for no straight reason, and he's openly gay (no pun intended there).

Congrats Josh! I didn't have any problems while I worked there. It weas a good place to work and we had some really good management people there. Of course they have all moved on as I do frequent the store often.

Does anyone have any photos of these "Reel Rods"? The three local Wally Worlds and the two Kmarts don't have those up here(NE PA) at all! I hear these are some awesome looking cars but I can't get my hands on them!

Former employee of Wal*Mart

My reign was from 93 to 98 and they treated me fairly. But when it came to promotion time now that's a different story. A opening came up for Support Manager interviewed 3 times and was rejected. Fortunatley I was in school at the time working on my diesel mechanic certificates. So I quit WM and moved on to diesel mechanics.:D Sam Walton did make a statement saying that he wanted a WM in every city that was his vision. But on the other hand he also said that he didn't want to go into real big cities. I'm on my way to a WM right now. I have about 10 within a 15 mile radius and the all have the 1/87 vehicles. My opinion I think the 1/87 tractors are too big

I agree. I don't model a time period that would allow me to use any of the Malibu tractors, but even if I did I'd stay away from them for that reason.

Welcome to the forum, tandemaxle! ;)

tandemaxle, & Ryan, the Malibu cabs checked out, they're within 2% of 1:87 (I.E. 1:89-1:85) If you want over size, check out some of the older Matchbox 1:87 offerings, there's 3 Matchbox Premiere T600's on eBay, check out ho wide the noses are. The problem that lies in the Malibu cabs is lack if a prototype, they're general representations of prototypes.

Josh,

I did the same. I purchased one as I was a bit leary about the size and sized it up and it works just fine. As you stated it is only off by that 2% which doesn't make much of a difference. Also, on my layout they will be featured in the background anyway.
