    Corrugated metal roof panel sizes

The 26" width is pretty much standard for the "wavy" / rounded metal sheets. The newer flat/angular styles sometimes come in 30" & occasionally 36" widths. Remember, with a 26" panel, only 24" is visible. With good construction, the joints should be tight, so the width of the panels is much less...

    Prototype for everything

The prototype uses prefab track for the same reason as modelers, quick to install accurately. Here's some more info: http://modeltrains.about.com/od/customizingmodeltrains/ig/Open-Loads-Photos/Switch-Panel-Car.htm

    Over-grown rails

Here's a pic of an overgrown industrial lead in Fontana, CA that sees pretty regular use. The UP maintenance crew stored their equipment there while upgrading track on the Declezville spur, and didn't seem too concerned about the weeds, as it was several months before they were finally trimmed.

    Did anybody see Unstoppable yet?

I saw it last night and loved it - and so did my wife, whom I had to practically drag to the theater. The on e part that bothered me was when the two units got in front of the train to slow it, and they tried to helicopter the guy in....really? Just have two engineers on the power up front, and...

How to Make Trees and Shrubs

There's no way that I know of - the problem is that white glue, when wet, readily sticks to what ever you apply it to, but doesn't stick to itself - so no bond until it dries. And it isn't tacky for very long, quickly forming a skin when left exposed. I'd suggest using rubber cement, which you...

Step-By-Step Build Series - Walthers Ashland Iron & Steel Rolling Mill

If you wanted to power the track in the building, you could epoxy thin metal strips down to the base plate, which would function as the visible rail head. Conductive tape might even work.

    Neophyte needs help w/diesel sound

I'm not sure how electronically inclined you are, but the suggestion above right along the lines of what I was thinking. Some searching on the subject tells me the chips can't be reprogrammed, but can be replaced, and here's how to do it: http://www.instructables.com/id/Musical-Greeting-Card/...

Railroads not affected by bad economy

I'm pretty sure that if BNSF hadn't experienced any ill effects of the bad economy, it would have taken a lot more than $27 billion for Warren Buffett to buy it. That being said, he wasn't going to buy a company that didn't have strong fundamentals and good prospects for growth as the economy...
