Rainy Day on the former C&O, somewhere in Virginia...

Hi everyone. A few years we took a trip to watch trains on the Clinchfield around the Ky/Va border. Recently, I've been playing with new software and decided to resurrect an older image from the trip taken on a rainy day on the old C&O. Hopefully, someone here will enjoy it the view. :)...

    SRR Coaling Tower @ Night

Shot on the return trip from the L&N Convention (Harlan, TN) last Saturday night in Leadvale, TN... That is LGM standing under it. He's about 6'2" tall. The tower dates to 1925 and is on the edge of Douglas lake. The mainline was realigned when the lake was built. Hope someone enjoys it...

    Abandoned L&N Tunnel

For those folks out there (like me) who spend more time thinking about what was historically here in the way of railroads than what is currently here, this thread may be of interest. The mighty L&N was once king of railroads in the industrial region of central Alabama. Under the direction of...

Flashback! Ensley Southern RR Tunnel circa 1908

After a recent trip to locate a long forgotten railroad tunnel, I thought it might be interesting to take a look back at a cool shortline railroad from the industrial past of Birmingham, Ala. If you like history, please jump in and let's take a trip back in time... Before we start I'd like to...

    A weird problem...and a lesson learned

Hi everyone. We recently had an unusual DCC issue that might be of interest to members here. For several years we have run two Lenz LS150 stationary decoders to control the turnouts in our three hidden staging yards. The layout runs on a Digitrax DCS100 Super Chief system. Switch routes...

    Digitrax Soundbug

Just wondering if anyone here has used the new Soundbug "piggyback" sound decoder from Digitrax? http://www.digitrax.com/soundbug.php I am wondering how they sound with the sound files they come loaded with and how they are to install in P2K geeps. This looks like it may be a good way to add...

    Railroad Fonts

In searching for a source for D&RGW fonts for this thread, http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=204319#post204319 it occurred to me that this could be a valuable resource for modelers. For instance, we want to do a "D&RGW Platte Canyon Subdivision" sign for the backside of...

An invitation to have a look around...

...the modern day version of a true (former) iron, steel, mining and railroad town, once the hope of the New South. This is a bit OT, but what the heck, this is the ANPL. I shot this image last Saturday night from a spot on Red Mountain known as Grace's Gap. This overlook is on Birmingham's...

    Getting The Runaround

I was out with LGM fooling around railfanning yesterday and thought run these images by ya'll for some feedback, pro or con. Either way, I hope someone enjoys them. We got to Garden City (South Hanceville in RR terms) and found this empty coal drag sitting on the siding. A northbound train...
