Reflecting on 2006, how was it for you

Well here goes, I have not been on here for over a year due to lots happening that are now settling down. Nothing too problematical just uses a lot of time. I moved my company which tok enormous amounts of time, I had to buy a new car as the Mercedes engine manaement system gave up, my son who...

    Uncoupling...How to?

Thanks Bill, I have opted with the Kadee #5 and am recoupling all my stock. Since my last post I have sold my house and am about to move so the layout is packed ready for transit. I have also elected to go digital and have bought the Lenz system as it is well supported over here. Chris

    Do you use DCC?

Seriously considering the Lenz 100 system with an adittional LH100 handheld to operate the fiddle yard. Anticipated cost of £244 plus £54 plus cost of £28 per decoder. Fortunately I only have a current fleet of 11 so the decoder costs are not too high. I am looking to then install sound to get...

    First layout tips

Don't know if it helps but Model Railroader recently did a publication on building an 8' X 4' layout with a DVD. The DVD would be very useful to you I am sure. All the best. Chris

    Uncoupling...How to?

Thanks for the info, I need a 308 apparently which is a magnet hidden under the track and is not visible. Interesting as a 308 is a car over here made by Peugeot. The couplings are all #5 and I have been able to source them so on with the recoupling of stock.

    Uncoupling...How to?

Chaps As part of the plan to build an American layout for exhibition over here in the UK, I have a question... I wish to use an automatic, invisible uncoupling system but dont know what works best or how they work. I do not want to use the 'hand of God' method. Can anyone help, I have...

    Do you use DCC?

I am planning to use it on my new layout and Bachmann have just introduced a new system over here in the UK which a friend of mine oozes confidence over. Will probably try that one and upgrade later if I feel I need to. The cost for this system is running at £50 with decoders at about £20. I...

    Newbie Back

Thats absolutely fine, it is always valuable to get an independent view. The use of the single and double slips are very common in the UK. The single at the top allows movement between the headshunt and the top siding without encroaching the remaining headshunts and/or sidings. It also allows a...

    Loco Info

Beyond my wildest hopes, thanks ever so. I am planning to use it on non main line operation based on present day so that fits nicely. Just as an aside, if I were to operate my new switching layout with UP as a RR which other RR should I use? The concept at exhibitions is UP in the am and then...

    Newbie Back

Bob, I will keep you all informed and post pictures when I start building. The track plan is being stress tested to ensure it does everything I want it to and whilst this is in operation I am starting to build the boards. The scenic length is 12' with a 6@ fiddle yard on the end. The other...

    Loco Info

Thanks very much for the info but when did the prototypes run from and to, and what duties were they common on. Was the early 80's the model introduction or the real thing? It is in fact marked Atlas on the underside of one of the bogies and runs like a dream. I was given it by a client and...
