BN 453688 (EX-CB&Q) PEELING PAINT

BN 453688 (EX-CB&Q) PEELING PAINT

Hello world! I weather HO freight cars and this was one of my more interesting projects (MrKLUKE car#121). It was based on a real car of the same number. It's an EX-CB&Q hopper than was painted after that railroad became part of the BURLINGTON NORTHERN. Lots of the paint was peeling off the car to reveal the original paint scheme! It made for an interesting modeling project. Looking back...I could have added more dimension to the rust. Also, the BN green is too bright. I've posted the picture on a small forum (about 60 members) but I thought I'd try a different one. I have a few other projects to share at a later date! THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST.

That is a very nice bit of weathering! You've done an excellent job of simulating the 'flaking'. Did you overpaint a Burlington hopper with a BN paint job and then pull off the BN paint?

JON!

THANKS for the compliments! YES, you are correct. I started with a factory painted CB&Q hopper from Accurail. I painted it green and added all the decals. Then, I took away some paint and decals. Finally, rust and minimal graffiti was added.

Even though I like your second one better, this one is still great. (I give this one a 10, but the other deserves a 15)
