If you want a shiny flat -ish surface do a thin varnish and ensure it cannot spread and fall on the floor but allow it to slowly dry out, plastercin can be a barrier

fyi sometimes hot weather can impact and effect the finish, I clean my ‘water’ with a damp cloth the real water for a short time enhances the mirror effect and removes dust that sits on top. And reflections are easily better captured at low angles

This model is 1:43, a ‘toy’ on a shelf I saw the abandoned VWs thought for a split second of damaging the model, shudders, then repainted to red, matched the damage, added some ‘real’ sun shades, added some ’leaves’ birch seeds, dirtied the tires, and voila…..
I could warm up a knife and flatten a wheel, but chose not to
but this is the result if you do, don’t use a good kitchen knife…..the wife might be somewhat annoyed.

What a great skill set you have. You modeling is astounding. Enjoy every photo.
Do you use image stacking software for your images
Thank you very much ;)
I never play with the images, just as photographed, no photoshopping

I rely on finding good reference pictures, and trying to insert as many details as possible, I also benefit from velux windows so natural sunlight gives a real boost.

Whew! Finally caught up in this thread!

Not as involved as Jim's infamousPinnacle Creek Mining thread with 15 gazillion layouts over 10+ years. But the potential to grow to that level.

Keep up the good work of sharing. Love to see when folks work to make cheap plastic figures enhance a layout, rather than just plonk them down as is.

Thank you very much Troy, I have a pet hate with figures humans and animals often the actual model has a lot of detail totally ignored by the paint job.

cows for instance
peco model so cheap to buy but appalling paint job, you can update black and white,I can show that too, but here I changed colour as well as the colour shows off the ripples on the skin

appalling as bought

I chose the palest colour that would appear on the body and covered the lot

even this pale colour improves the look
CC8EBA5D-6B6E-4CA8-9316-59C30E3C0633.jpeg

the breed I chose has a darker body so again this looks better
5BFAB209-9153-49CD-B1D6-9560E6766476.jpeg

I liked the improvement so much I went darker still
then I painted the nose and eye area a creamy white, then with a finer brush added a dark brown black for the nose and eyes, and deepened the hooves
as I paint I often make mistakes, no issues I wait for it to dry go back paint the before and then repaint,or just touch up with the previous colour if I just added too much of the last colour,

I did cut off some of the horns as they did not look good in my opinion for the breed I wanted, but could have suited a different breed
later - not shown here - I added sone dirty water where I cleaned my brushes and swiped under the body it dried too thin and I repeated but better too little than too much, this then offered up subtle shadows that are usually seen. My own painting is not fine I tend to be fast and sloppy but you can see the vast improvement
i am a 20 effort / 80 improvement person it does not need to be super detailed that takes too much effort, and the more you put together the more it works when photographed

the black cow best shows the light on the coat

close up with sone attempt to. Hide them in the scenery

generally putting 2 similar models is not a good idea although painted differently the stance still shouts clone/model but as they move back into the scenery they work better

I tell you now I painted those chickens in enamel and they do not look good close up,I keep meaning to repaint

4EC1A6AE-3B14-4029-BA24-F3F9DAE81B04.jpeg

the pair were bought ready painted by someone who hand painted them and did an admirable jug, left I went heavy dirt so they blend better especially at a distance or not quite in focus
1A7A26C3-EF0C-4D87-A2BB-2E095E5F2534.jpeg

ooh forgot to mention when painting cows udders paint them skin colour.

now on a decent bit of scenery they start to become part of a scenery
7BC17E75-1329-4B24-A394-382658D4D141.jpeg

the plastercast rocks are awful, ripped out and replaced, but look at the whole picture, the cows are no longer the focus but they now enhance the rest of the area, a shame the metal birds do not have better detailing so I turned heads to make best of them, the birds also sit on the water not in the water and do not have proper flat bases I either need to add a little more varnish just where the birds are and/or file the bids bases flat so they seem to be in the water not on it.

For every little shouts model you address the better it gets, and you do not need to do all the kayout I have a karge kayout in various levels with small areas that I have concentrated on because I have the detail to do so,and in my opinion a train does noy]t need to be in every picture, because in. Real life they aren’t. this helps the kayout when your stood near it look more realistic
