Upgrade your uncoupling tool.

A lot of us use thin wooden skewers to uncouple cars, myself included. But, for me anyway, they never seemed to be where I needed them, they were always falling on the floor, etc., etc. So, the other day I made these. A few inches of wooden doweling, a few inches of skewer glued into a hole drilled in one end. Some paint and decal scraps leftover from locomotive projects, and bingo, bango, fancy uncoupling tools. They were fun to make and, I think, they look really nice.

Actually, I've always had trouble with the scewer when tryin to separate cars. Apparently the design is to shive it down into the couplers then twist it to open them. I can't make that happen for some crazy reason. Maybe I'm not pursing my lips right or maybe should just go drop jaw, open mouth mode.
I have found that using the scewer to pull the trip pin sideways most always does it.
