Jaz- what a pleasure to visit Goathland with you.
I am impressed with the quality of modeling and the imagination you show in putting together your scenes.
Looking forward to seeing what else you will share with us. (In a couple weeks, STAY OFF your feet).
Thank you
Mikey
because I usually work off real photographs I just look at the details in them and try to replicate, if I cannot buy the product I see if I can model it, and try to keep era specific items together or aged appropriately, I used to discuss with Orem members items I needed and we would see if someone had seen them or throw in ideas, I use plaster one to trial ideas as can be reminded with easy then if I think I have a workable idea I have a go, for instance bins, old metal, later plastic and of course bin bags, the early ones are fairly easy to source, and bin bags are just lumps with say a tied handle, for me the details that catch your eye improve the credability, and I pull good looking items forward and move less credible items backwards or obscure items like bases of moveable figures
binbags, black, green are usual some companies use a specific colour
i was making something else had some left over that would harden and be wasted and I knew this project needed doing doing a small sharp pencil was the tool, I just rolled the ‘bags’ and as they are not uniform it makes it really easy
Placed near a model bin they are immediately associated and recognised, the orange ones here are Sainsbury’s shopping bags easily recognised in England
enamel or acrylic paint works i favour acrylic you get a little shine
here in England one company hires out wood pallets and they paint them blue for identification hence blue not wood in this picture, I often pinch and add stones,or modelling debris with different sizes, the bits can end up somewhat large but the different sizes look better than everything the exact same size
Often superb layouts are just too picture perfect and need to be dirtier, any stuff I pull off when redoing I bag and then use to avoid super clean layout syndrome, and if overdone a quick sweep with a painter and decorators brush can tidy up, careful need tracks though, or if you have track for running cars along roads.
