I was thinking more of the railroad, vs. a model of the Railroad. The North Jersey Coast Line, to be more specific.

I see. I thought we were talking about the mobile scenery at the beach. Lol. :D

I have been thinking about the earlier discussion on "scenery". For those of you that remember, I am planning to build a roadhouse bar in my town and then plop a Southern Baptist Church across the street or tracks from it. I have decided that the roadhouse is now going to be a top optional establishment and will need an accompanying sign to advertise. I'm going to explore side emitting fiber optics to build a custom neon sign. I think that may ruffle the pastor's feathers a bit.
You could always put this up, if you want the contrast, and ruffled feathers, all in one:

Good afternoon. 77 degrees with a nice breeze. At least we don't have the high temps that a lot of the rest of the country has. Was watching the race in Chicago where the temps were up into the 90's and the temps inside the race cars was over 150 degrees.

Where did the first half of the year go? Guess time flies when you're having fun.

No trains today, but I did get the LED's needed to light the interior of some of the buildings and the Woodland Scenics Water Effects for the pond that is on my procrastination list.

It was a really busy night at the club last night. I did run steam for a change.

Besides being busy, we also had trains running in to opposite direction on both of the main line tracks. A new rule was put into operations last night. The train coming upgrade would have the right of way even if it was shorter AND if the passing siding was long enough to the train heading down grade. One exception was the 16 car long Empire Builder as ther areno sidings long enough for that train.

Here my steamer is heading to the summit with a pair of Geeps sitting in the passing siding.

Here the DM&IR Yellowstone with its ore train passes going down grade.

Things actually went pretty smoothly even though someone decided to have trains running in both directions at the same time. It did make things interesting.

When I was heading back to the car to come home, this flat car was sitting in the yard. I would like tomodel something like this if I could find equipment that would fit the 50's time period.

My son and his wife just got here with a box of sausage patties to be put into vacuum bags so I will say good evening.

Good afternoon ....

Terry ,,, Thanks for starting teh July Coffee Shop

ACL-CSX ..... Perhaps, you can further rile up that pastor if you also include the image at the bottom of this page with an advertisement for Maxim Magazine with Kate Upton exposing her assets.

Karl.... At the beach ? ... You should be able to sand the rails.

Greg .... It sounds like you have good ideas for an industrial area on your layout.

Chet ..... Great club photos. !

Happy model railroading, everybody.

I like the option Terry shared, but wrong scale. You are on the right track Garry. The plan was a giant (but still to scale) sign of a woman in attire in one shade of "neon" and then her "assets" out in an alternate color. Need LEDs, fiber optics, and some way to automate the animated portion of the sign. And then figure out how to sneak the build by the rail boss without the appropriate permits. Lol

That's pretty cool Toot. May find a place for something like that on the wrong side of the tracks.

Been trying to figure out how to automate Bubba's mobile home "exploding" because what he was "cooking" went wrong. If it wasn't N scale, it may be easier, but I'm not giving up yet. There's gotta be a way.

You can have Bubba's mobile home sitting there with a "firebox flicker" light and a seuthe smoke unit inside, with a couple of fire trucks with flashing lights. Bubba can be standing next to the mobile home, covered in soot, and the mobile home can have no windows, and smoke-blackened areas.

Good morning fellers. Gonna be a long short week for me. Next week will be even longer. Having to cover down for my shop foreman the next two weeks means 0330 wake up and 10 hour shifts. In my line of work these are hard 10 hour shifts. Of course come in this morning and the internet is down in the shop. Most likely won't be back up for a few more hours. So at the moment I can't punch in and I can't order parts. Can lead to a bad day if it doesn't get repaired soon.

Morning: Supposed to be 86 on the high end. Cloudy/overcast at the moment will be clearing shortly after the sun comes up.
Getting a few things gathered up for KEN D&J's arrival a couple hours. I hope we have a successful day; I have been up the pass numerous times, but not just for train watching. I Hope we are able to find some good places to stop.
Time for another cup ... and to make headway.

Justin... Good luck with the work this week with the added responsibility.

TERRY .. Looked like a nice park where you were?

CHET ... Nice pic from the club. Must have been an interesting night.

JOE --- I hear you about those Marines. My East Coast SIL seems to be, more or less, on the move continuously. He has been on a couple of those "overseas" employment jobs. At the moment he has to have a shoulder rotator cup worked on. It has given him trouble for a couple years.

Good morning everyone. 71 and clearing. should get to mid 90's today. Yesterday was cloudy so held the temps down most of the day. I'm with Ken - let's celebrate July with a jelly doughnut (and a big cup of coffee).

Kids and their families came over for lunch yesterday after church. Had the hammock and a swing up, and it was nice enough outdoors in the shade to enjoy them. Great time, until it was time for daughter's family to leave: the almost-two-year-old granddaughter (the one who loves the trains) did NOT want to get out of the swing. Eventually bribed her with a visit to the train room where she likes to push buttons at the control panel! :D

Figured out that the lake must have a slight slant, causing the Realistic Water to run out of the lake into the stream. So built a dam at the south end, painted it, and will have the engineers release more water into the lake tonight.

Chet - may have missed your answer - are those Montana wildfires near you?

Coffee's ready and smells great! Have a good day everyone.

NJT also runs from 30th St Station to AC(aka Gambler's Express).

I wonder how that line is doing, now that casinos are all over? That line has no where near the volume of use that the other NJT lines have. Last time I rode a train to Atlantic City, it was pulled by steam power.

Sherrel, there are many places to stop on the city side of the pass.
Just take the old road, there is virtually no traffic, and it parallels the railroad.

Good Morning All. 77° and mostly cloudy. There's been rain all over the place during the last 18 hours, but not here except for a brief shower late yesterday. I guess you could say that my weather rock got partly wet; there was nothing in the rain gauge. However around 4:00 pm, the temperature plunged from 98° to 76° in less than fifteen minutes. The man farming the land adjoining me on the South is out early this morning plowing the wheat field that he harvested last month. Thankfully there is no wind (normally out of the south this time of year) yet this morning, so the pool is not receiving a deluge of windborne dust and chaff. The spider webs just don't do a good job of filtering it.
I did manage to mow some more of the yard before deciding that it was too warm. Another thirty minutes today and I will have completed the rotation. It's nice now that I am retired and can spread mowing out over three or four days instead of a marathon session every Saturday like I used to have to do. Bathroom remodel is still on hold right now while the contractor waits for his helper to return from Mexico. He did do a little by himself last week that didn't require the helper. He will be back, as I owe him for two days last week and he left about $2000 worth of tools here.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued to install shingles on the barn project. Managed to double the output and got sixteen more rows on, only thirty rows more to go. These Campbell paper shingles are much more tedious to install than Bar Mills of any other laser-cut kit shingles that I have done previously. I don't think that them being thirty years old has anything to do with it, I think that it is just the nature of the beast. They come in a roll and when cut into length, they "smile" or bow upward on each end due to the slits along one side. Even cutting them into shorter pieces doesn't make application any easier. Spent a little time cleaning track and ROW on the next portion of the layout. As some of you know, I have a quarterly two-year schedule for track/layout maintenance to avoid an overwhelming task.

Greg - Congratulations on the win. That will buy a lot of details for you to work with.
Chet - Thanks for the additional pictures from the club. With the new running scheme, it's a wonder that you were able to take some.
Sherrel - You're up early today. Have a good railfan trip with Ken.

My wife who's vacationing on the Texas Gulf Coast this week, took this picture from the balcony of the condo that she's staying at. I had asked for pictures of girls in bikinis and this is what I get! She said that there were seven ships that day and this was the largest. They're headed for the Houston ship channel. Swimmers beware!

Everybody have a great day and a great July 4th week.

Good morning. Started the morning off at 45 degrees with clear skies and an expected high in the mid 70's. We still don't have any of the heat that a lot of the country has been experiencing, but we could be in the low 90's by the end of the week. Yesterday we packaged up the sausage that we picked up. Had some for breakfast. good sausage.

Ray - Like the scene with the house of ill repute.. A very interesting scene for any model railroad. Nicely done. As far as the construction machinery goes, almost all of them are too modern for me. It was interesting to see those excavators on the MRL flat car. Just something to put on the wish list.

Johnny
- We have no wild fires near us yet, but summer is just starting.

Justin -
That sure will be a long week for you, but possibly some extra buck in it for the trains.

Ken D&J - Hope you have a good visit with Sherrel. Quite a trip from Virginia. Post some photos.

Willie and Garry - Thanks for the comments on the club photos. It was extremely busy and the only reason I managed to get some photos is because I had to throw the switch for the Geeps to leave the passing siding as soon as my train passed. Found some more really nice mini scenes, but we really had out hands full with so many trains running. It was out of the ordinary, but was a lot of fun having so many trains diving into the passing sidings.

Willie - Those Campbell shingles can be a pain to install, but when the rood is done, it sure looks good. That picture of the ship is interesting. I am guessing lotsa cars on that one.

Here's a rail picture for today.
