DCC locomotive conversion help

I want to convert my AHC Rivarossi GG1 from DC to DCC. I want to use an ESU LokSound V4.0 for the conversion. Does anyone have experience with this conversion? Does anyone have an installation diagram I can download? Thank you.

Before even discussing the decoder installation I'd take a look at the motor. Some older models had pancake motors or the old faithful three pole open framer than went into many AHM locos. Some of these won't react well to DCC. Open her up and see what sort of motor is in there. Maybe post a pic?

There is always the HO Seeker site.

Looks like a fairly simple conversion. Disconnect the motor and put those wires to the input to the decoder. Add a set of wires from the decoder motor output to the motor. Dealing with the sound will be the hardest part.

However I will say, I've never been impressed with the performance of the AHM vertical shaft motor drives.

Hmm the innards look similar to the IHC Premier (AHM) GG1 made by Mehano (not Rivarossi)

I have the one made by Mehano and it has two "can" motors instead of that one flat motor. They don't draw much power, and I can run both motors together at full stall and they don't come anywhere close to 1 amp. I wired both decoders to a single motor (make sure to turn off BEMF because the decoder will get confused) and it runs flawlessly. You'd think that it's a Kato.
